Questions and Answers.
dear Pioneers, i can seriously say that i m really excited to see such enthusiastic participation in the blog, hahh. this is going to be such a blast!

to answer a few questions here:

1.About us - Hah, mysteries shrouded about who we are. we are only two very enthusiastic Pioneers, named Leo and Joey, from class of 2003. we are not actually part of the alumni proper, but it was us who initiated this idea to the school. even as of now, we do not function in the alumni, but as somebodies who really want to bring tho school to its glory.

2.Food (halal-wise) - this is quoted from our caterer, Purple Sage Creative Catering (www.purplesage.com.sg visit them for more information) "We are not Halal certified, however, we are a no pork, no lard caterer with our preparations and meat items sourced from Halal certified suppliers." i do not know if this is proper Halal food, so muslims, please advise.

3.License - well, this is an issue which we are still in discussion on. we do not know if a license is required for a college event (if the college lists it out as a college event, it will be under the arms of the college). thus we will have to ask the relevant authorities on this matter.

4.Booze - this is tricky. see, in college, alcohol is not allowed, so is smoking and drugs, hahh. we have to comply with the college rules and it will be dangerous to try to risk it. although i will try to push for limited consumption of champagne, say, one glass each. champagne will not be enough to make one drunk (i hope, and hope that the college can see it from my point of view). however, if we do not hold this event on college grounds, then we will be able to get alcoholic drinks in.

5.How are we going to reunite the older batch (question from KR (class of '02))? - this is where we need the help of older batches like you, KR. as mentioned, we are from the year '03, therefore it is only likely that we remain contact with our year's classmates. we are hoping to depend on the power of word of mouth to convey our event to everyone, so as to draw in ex-Pioneers from even the first batch. to get them to the event, first they must know about the event, so everybody! Help PROMOTE our cause! ^^

6.The college's role and function - i m not sure if this is appropriate to mention, therefore i shall not divulge too much. there is only one thing i can say to set the picture right: the alumni and the college has thus far been quite dysfunctional on the alumni circle, the database owned by the college only contains 50 email addresses of ex-Pioneers. it will be suicidal if we can only depend on that limited information (God bless the internet!). thus we are working mostly out of the college's boundaries (meaning the both of us, Joey and Leo), and as partners to the alumni committee. we will be team to make this night happen. we will be the ones solely in charge of the running of the event, but still, this has to be recognised by the college to work, so we will still need to update our progress to them time to time. (apologies to any staff of the college's governing body, this is not meant to be offensive.)

7.Price - lastly, one big question everyone is concerned with. i cannot ask you to blindly pay your tickets and ask no questions, only you can judge the worth of the tickets. i can only assure you here that however much we charge, we can certainly justify the price you pay. first of all, perhaps that this is the once in your A'levels graduate life that you can get to see people whom you have lost contact with, friends you once hang out together with, the guys/gals whom you had so secretly admired for such a long time, teachers or staff who had made one of your exciting days in college, that is probably worth something, is it not? but rest assured that we will charge reasonably, for after all, you are not billionaires to extort money out of, hahh.

well, this are all the questions so far, feel free to email us for any other matters as well (jlcorp.sg@gmail.com).

but wait a minute, i now have two questions for you people instead.

1.as mentioned before, we may hold our event in FortCanning if the college fails to provide us with their grounds, but there has been a major issue resisting us to take the idea up immediately, namely the RAIN issue. thus i would like to ask: what is your take on the venue at FortCanning? assume for a moment that we have decided on FortCanning, in an event where it rains, what can you suggest that we do?

2.we will like to include items/performances by ex-Pioneers, bands, skit, dance, sing, we welcome all. this is to make the program more 'Pioneer', it is a night by us for us. if anyone of you is interested in performing or just bring laughters (no insults intended ;p), or you feel that your friends have the talents to perform, please sent in your intended item to us. but because the response for this segment has been very cold, i will be glad if there are any suggestions on the program from you peeps which you might think can be improved on.

Thanks again for the warm response to the blog! get more of your friends to visit us ya? Happy New Year everybody!!

a little bit on why we are setting this event.

for me, college has been truly a wonderful time i had spent, all my memories of fun of adventures of everything happened in college, in class, with all my friends. it was a time when i learnt that girls truly exist (i came from an all-boys (so boring) institute), it was a time i learnt about escapades outside of school (clubbing, drinking, shopping, movies, gamings, so many more). it meant so much to me, it was a growing-up experience.

it is therefore, sad, to see this gone with the wind as we graduate. PJC, as everybody knows, does not have a very prominent history, much less culture to speak of. sometimes i think about my future (not the very far-off future. the one in university with more girls (i just came out of army, 2 more years of freaking masculine testosterone charged males)) and i can envision this:
"hey, what's up? i'm fred from SAJC, you?"
"ermm, hey. i'm from pjc"
"oh really? where's that? local?"
"umm, yar."
"oh yar? anyway i was *this that this that* and i did *this that this that* and i had so much fun back in school. everybody was like *blah blah blah* and i went to *so and so and so and so* as a school trip. see? all my friends are over there."
*a group hanging out and all i can hear is SA this SA that*
"so how was your school?"
"err, alright. was cool. had fun."
"really? what did you do?"
"..."
well, pathetic little life. thus, i really wanted to do something, to make pjc known, to enliven our spirit, our culture. something which i can speak of while beeming with pride. it is not to be just another school with just some teachers where i just studied and pass my a'levels. you people agree? all my friends who were with me, all the happy days. i remembered a day when we drove out a subsitute chinese teacher. she asked us to read out a passage, an article, to practice us for the oral, and we each read out one word by one word. it was totally hilarious. she next marched out when one of my friends, a best friend now, turn his back on her (literally) when she told us to turn and face her. amazing days, how vivid it is in my mind, after all these time.

remember mrquek? with his slight spasm when speaking, and the famous phrase "struck by thunder" never failed to make me laugh. so come on, remember the times you had, remember the wonderful journey you embarked, back when you were still young and lively.

tell me as well your experiences in school, tell me that you want to come back, if not for the college, at least for the friends and for the sake of all the memories you have created. your joy and your excitment.

this is particularly why i had this sudden urge to see everybody again, to relive the past, to enjoy my life again. to see all whom i have missed will definitely be a precious moment i can embed into my mind.

Pioneer Night, in detail.
Hi to all Pioneers,

these are the details of the event so far (bear in mind that it might, or will, change, as many things are still undecided, namely the college's response. However, we will try to set this asap.)

Venue : College grounds (we might choose Fort Canning or any other hotel if not permitted in college.)

Date/Time : 270607 (this is a friday night, may be postponed to the following week though. we have considered the possibilities, this is by far the best timing, as many undergraduates are on their holidays by then.)

Pricing : $40-$80 (it is the major concern amongst everyone, but this is largely dependent on the venue and the programme on the day. the pricing will definitely be fixed around this price, for we have considered that many will still be poor students at that point, thus unwilling to charge a you people an exorbitant cost. at this point i have to assure everyone that we will make the event worthy of the price you pay, even if it is in college.)

Programmes : This is a very unpredictable factor in the event, but just a sneak peek at the event we have thought of. if we are going to hold it in the college, the whole event will be as followed:
it will be a themed event, we have thought of using a heaven and hell concept, held in two different venues. by that i mean that we will have our dinner at a heavenly areana in the parade square, followed by a hellish party night in the hall. not to worry about the food and the enviroment of the event, food-wise we have contacted a very prestigious caterer, which serves fantastic food in an equally amazing presentation. this may include sushi counter, cavery stations (like kebab stalls), and delectable desserts. as for the aesthetics of the event, it will be fully decorated to suit the event, we promise you that it will not look like you are in school. for the party segment in the hall, we have considered several special programmes, such as a live band, performance by the teachers (one worthy of watching, given the talents of our teachers), performance by ex-Pioneers (which is why it is crucial that you people can help spread the message, and recommend anybody to perform for this segment). they say that the emcees make or break an event, for that, we already have considered using renowned radio deejays to host our wonder evening. they might be glenn ong and FD, don and drew, or perhaps rod montero and jean danker, we are still in talks various talents company to check the availability of their engagement. all of these will definitely make this one hell of a reunion. so what about the reunion part? is this not a reunion? not to worry, this is definitely a reunion, but it must be an eventful one as well. we could have easily planned something simple, just a nonchalant dinner affair in a hotel with some speeches and a good emcee, but where is the fun in all that? base on timings and all other pyscological factors, it will be a GREAT REUNION!!

that part was for the college, now a little bit on the Fort Canning:
it is also a dinner, a buffet one, set in a very tribal zen style. eating on tatami mats on low tables, giving a japanese feel. all around will be lit up by fire torches with various other ornaments to make it like survivor tribal meeting. programme wise it will be very much similar to the programme mention above. i have less details for this particular venue because it will spoilt most of the fun if i do leak out too much information.

that is all i can say, however, not all plans are perfect, do leave your comments here and tell us what you think of these, everything. tell us:

-what you expect to see (special segments you will like to have).
-what food you like.
-what enviroment you like.
-what do you think of this whole thing (pricing, emcees, programmes, people you like to see there).
-and any other comments you think may be helpful in running this event smoothly.

here, i have to thank everybody in advance for everything they are about to do. really, this will never happen if it does not have you.

for further contacts, please feel very free to email us at jlcorp.sg@gmail.com

Pioneer Night
Dear Friends of Pioneer junior College,

It has been a long and wonderful time since we parted with the college, and with each other. Many stories have been written between us and much more left to be told, shared with one another. As the title of this blog suggest, there will be a night for the Pioneers, a unique night for all to gather once again, if not for the college, at least for the sake of old friendships. Follow us through as we bring you towards this great event, this joyous celebration long awaited. More details will be updated as the days go by, so look out intently for this spot.

I personally hope to see all of you again, my friends.
